Catching my first Zander

It took me two years to catch my first zander after moving up to the Fens. I started off on the rivers. These were the Old West near Earith and the Ouse in Ely and occasionally the Cam but no joy although the locals told me they were full of zander, had plenty of pike and perch, fishing with small roach dead baits some times static some times under floats tried lures as well.

So decided to give up on the river and give Roswell pits a try which has a reputation for big zander. On my second trip I caught one at last. Not big but welcome.

I caught this one using a small roach dead bait on a paternoster rig under a bush in the margins. I quite often fish Roswell now which is generally a good all round fishery. Give it a go.
